Does it Matter if Your Cookie is Black and White

The woman behind the counter at the Marlboro Inn Bake Shop on Grove Street in Montclair was adamant.

“We have the best black and white cookies in Montclair,” she said.

Really? We were incredulous. We’ve heard debates about best pizza, best sushi, best bar, pretty much everything under the sun, but this was a new one for JC. Does the black and white cookie have such a rabid fan base that there would indeed be a best of category.

Well were not one to shy from such a bold declaration so we took up our bakers challenge and bought a large black and white cookie and a chocolate chip one to boot. Lo and behold it was pretty darn good. Light fluffy center, thick creamy icing on top. Indeed, this was the best black and white cookie we’ve ever had. Oh, and the chocolate chip cookie was pretty yummy as well.

So, while we won’t bestow the Marlboro Inn Bake Shop with best black and white cookie honors just yet, we will go so far as to say they certainly bake the B&W cookie to beat.
