Ladies’ Knight

We have to admit, Jerseycool is not much of a college basketball fan — mens or womens — but we would be remiss if we didn’t take a moment and acknowledge the Rutgers Lady Knight women’s basketball team.

The team plays Tennessee tonight for the NCAA women’s basketball championship and they have a very real chance of winning. Steve Politi has a nice piece in today’s Star Ledger about the two coaches facing off tonight. You can read it online over at Nj.com. Rutgers coach Vivian Stringer and Tennessee coach Pat Summit are not only two of the more prominent and successful coaches in the women’s game but they are also close friends.

The game is on tonight, 8:30 p.m. on ESPN.

I wish them luck! A local underdog (Marist) was wiped out of the sweet 16 by Tennessee. Everybody here was thrilled that Marist made it that far that there was no hardship or disappointment toward Tennessee. Some of the players were even proud to have been beaten by Tennessee.
