Excitables for the Weekend of March 9-11

Now that Antonella Barba is off American Idol we can officially begin the weekend. Yes, folks our little Barba doll didn’t make the cut last night so what are we to do? How about a parade.

AAntonella Barbas mentioned previously, Jerseycool will be a few towns south of Ms. Barba’s home in Pt. Pleasant at Seaside Height’s annual St. Paddy’s Day Parade tomorrow. The town puts on a pretty good show if memory serves but no need to travel to get you’re Irish on. Most towns in NJ will hold their festivities this weekend since next weekend everyone gets out of the way of that little St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New York City.

Here’s a link to several other parades in the area thanks to NJ.com.

Elsewhere this weekend:

Sports — selection Sunday is this weekend so NCAA fans will be filling out brackets and to help them navigate their March Madness pools. Not that we’d ever promote something illegal like gambling, mind you? The selection show is on 6 p.m. Sunday on CBS.

In the cinema’s — The weekend’s best bet seems to be 300, Zach Snyder’s sandals and swords epic that features a cast of computer animators. The look of the film is impressive but reviews have been so-so. We personally think this movie has dominated the wet dreams of fanboys (the movie is adapted from a Frank Miller comic) from East to West for the better part of two months. Probably going to be the first big hit of the year.

Looking for something else, the Asian horror film the Host opens this weekend. Toxic chemicals creates a monster in South Korea, terror and horror ensue. It’s a quick way to fill your cheesy horror and artflick quotas for the month.

The Ultimate Gift is another new movie opening this week. The family film is about an estranged grandson who must complete tasks to earn his inheritance. The film stars Little Miss Sunshine’s Abigail Breslin, which I hear all movies are now required to by law.

Sick weekend — Got a cold this weekend or hangover. May we reccomend FX Martial Arts Madness festival from 7a.m.- 8 p.m. on Saturday. Catch up on flix like Kung Pow Enter the Fist, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and, of course, Enter the Dragon.

Have a good weekend,
